Alec has a track record of running courses which inspire and energise delegates; which remind them of the sheer fun of reading, or the crucial role of libraries; which are informed by keeping in touch with teachers and children throughout the country; and which share down-to-earth practical ideas that will help every listener. You can download a full list of recent courses and CPD sessions – but contact Alec on the topic you have in mind!
Full day courses are typically from 9.00 or 9.30am to 3.30 or 4.00pm; half day courses are also possible. There’s no fixed audience limit, but up to 30-35 people keeps a course truly participative (assuming space for group work). Alec can adapt to larger audiences, using paired discussion and other techniques. Courses normally include handouts, and Alec is happy to email follow-up information to delegates afterwards.
Practising stories gives confidence! A School Library Association course at Heath Books
Thanks for all the information. I thought you’d like to know that following the course and your brilliant ideas, we now have poems on the back of every loo door, posters around school encouraging reading, and I’m doing a Reading for Pleasure assembly in January. Thank you again for your help – it was fantastic!
— Teacher after Reading for Pleasure course, Gloucestershire, 2013
Audiences include teachers, librarians, Early Years practitioners and others, and can be held anywhere in the UK or beyond (training sessions have ranged from Buenos Aires to Burma!). Overnight accommodation is normally needed unless courses are very near Alec’s home in West Yorkshire.
Contact Alec for current course fees, and to discuss how to get the very best from your training event!
It was informative, helpful and most importantly, fun. So many of these courses are dry and unimaginative, thank you for being entertaining! (even though I now have far too many ideas and not enough hours!) — Teacher after Reading for Pleasure course, Bedford, 2017
What you offer is timeless, and of more importance than ever given the current educational climate. — Librarian after Literacy course, West Bromwich, 2013
