Alec visits both international and government schools around the world, either by invitation or arranged through the British Council. His storytelling sessions give a real boost to English language teaching: they’re entertaining, memorable, and show ‘English in Performance’. Alec uses natural language, adding idiom and colloquialisms.
Depending on the English level, sessions could be with Kindergarten/Nursery children up to teenage students. They can include traditional stories; picture books; poetry; extracts from modern fiction – or a mix of all these elements. Performance sessions can be to more than one class; interactive workshop sessions are best with a single class; both are great fun!
Alec was fabulous. He spoke to the whole school, grade by grade, inviting them to tell stories that evening. So many children came in next day talking about the stories they’d told. Pure magic! — School Librarian, Istanbul, 2014
Session times are normally around 30 minutes for the youngest children, up to 50 minutes for the eldest. Alec usually does four sessions a day. The School Library’s a great place for storytelling, but he’ll work in a Music Room or School Hall too.
Alec’s happy to have teachers sitting in on ‘demonstration sessions’, and he can include Q&A and Training for teachers afterwards, for a small extra fee.
Thank you for all the inspiration you have given me, and importantly all the children who are reading and enjoying stories globally because of the work you do. — British Council staff member, Oman, 2010
Alec kept the audience completely engaged in his bewildering manner of storytelling. — Journalist, Dubai, 2009
